End of an era: Beloved Spokane restauranter Celeste Shaw moves on from Chaps

SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane legacy is now under new ownership.

Celeste Shaw of Chaps Bakery has handed over the reins to one of the Spokane’s most beloved eateries.

Community members came out from open to close Saturday to wish Celeste the best and close this chapter of her life.

Art Hathaway, one of Chaps’ first customers, was part of the emotional goodbye saying, ” It’s a wonderful sendoff for a wonderful lady.”

Celeste’s impact was felt in flowers, cards, and handwritten notes.

She expressed gratitude for her time running Chaps, ” Thank you for the privilege of my time. Thank you for the privilege of my time that you believed in me. You show up for me, that you show up for each other. What a gift. To even be part of this community and to serve and to represent what I hope that we always continue to represent with and through each other.”

Though she’s moved on from Chaps, you can still see Celeste at Cafe Coco in downtown Spokane.
