SPOKANE, Wash. — A new pub crawl is happening in downtown Spokane Friday night.
The “Politi-Crawl” is an event designed to engage the community in politics in a more comfortable, informal setting.
Erin Sellers, who covers the City Council for RANGE Media, said she has witnessed the disconnect between politics and the community and is actively working to bridge that gap.
“The City Council is making decisions that impact people and their communities and their neighborhoods every Monday night. And there’s not that many people that come to meetings,” said Sellers.
“How do we get the people of Spokane involved in politics in a way that feels accessible and fun, and not stuffy and boring?” Sellers asked.
This led to the creation of the Politi-Crawl, an event where city council members will be stationed at local bars in downtown Spokane to speak with residents.
Sellers believes that an informal setting can help people feel more comfortable asking questions and engaging with the government.
