SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Habitat for Humanity’s women build is kicking off the second event this year by creating six new homes for those in need.
“Just being able to look around and see all of the establishments and the communities and neighbors now is special,” said Jessica Golladay, a member of the women build steering committee.
Hundreds of volunteers signed up for the four-day event to build fencing and lay the foundation for six new homes.
“We’ve been really packing the entire event. It’s been really popular and I think year over year, just bringing more people in has been really cool,” Golladay said.
The purpose of the women build is to address some of the challenges women face in order to become homeowners. Habitat Spokane said around 60% of the families it works with are single parent households led by women.
With the median home resale nearly doubling in Spokane County over the last five years, Habitat for Humanity’s goal of supplying affordable housing is more important than ever.
