Spokane voters show support for added sales tax for public safety measures

CITY OF SPOKANE PROPOSITION 1 – PUBLIC SAFETY TAX

SPOKANE, Wash – Voters in Spokane are so far passing a measure that would add a sales tax to pay for public safety.

Mayor Lisa Brown’s proposal would increase the sales and use tax by 0.1%. She says it will be used to support the Spokane Fire Department, Spokane Police, Municipal Court and the Office of the Police Ombudsman.

As of election night, voters were passing/rejecting the proposition with 58.1% of voters passing and 41.9% rejecting.
