SPOKANE, Wash. — A local woman and her pet dogs received a helpful holiday gift right before Christmas.
Myra Trent is a Coast Guard veteran and has three dogs, Kenta, Sugar Bear and Rego.
Trent and her furry friends moved to Spokane in 1981 and live in the Shadle Park neighborhood. They are well-known by many of their neighbors.
“Everybody knows my dog. Kenta is very popular down at the Safeway down here in Shadle Park,” said Myra.
Recently, one-year-old Kenta learned to hop over Trent’s backyard fence.
“Yesterday, my care provider had to go pick him up because he got loose for an hour,” said Trent.
Trent wasn’t able to build herself a taller fence to keep Kenta from getting out and was issued several citations for her dogs.
That’s when some local organizations offered their help.
Veterans Community Response and the 4 News Now Extreme Team stepped in to help Trent build a fence.
“You know, when you start to get older, and you’re not able to take care of things, the days just pile on you, and Myra has had the last few years pile up on her,” said Kelly Kiki, President of Veterans Community Response.
