More to Every Story: Spokane judge pauses sentencing of woman charged with hate crime after 2023 church vandalism

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — The sentencing for a woman who pleaded guilty to hate crime charges after she and three others vandalized a Spokane Valley church, has been put on pause.

22-year-old Brigid Shannon asked the judge for more time after she found out she may become a felon after state law changed just after the crime took place, and would not be able to own a gun if sentenced.

Shannon is the last of 4 people awaiting sentencing for stealing pride flags and spraying the lawn of Verdale United Church of Christ with diesel and burning what the congregation believes was a Bible verse misinterpreted to be anti-LGBTQ in June 2023…
