Northwest Flight Service program empowers young women in aviation

SPOKANE, Wash. – In Spokane, two young women are taking flight in a traditionally male-dominated field. Evie Nesselrode, 18, and Katie DeWitt, 16, are both aspiring military pilots. They are gaining the skills and knowledge required to achieve their dreams through the Inland Northwest Flight Service program.

DeWitt expressed her motivation for joining, saying, “I feel we’re very underrepresented and honestly, I’m pretty honored that I get the opportunity.”

She shared her unique experience of flying before driving, stating, “My first flight I was probably 14 and my first drive I think I had driven in some parking lots when I was really little, but I didn’t actually get my license until like six months ago.”…
