SpokAnimal promotes adoption ahead of National Rescue Dog Day

SPOKANE, Wash. – With National Rescue Dog Day approaching, SpokAnimal is shedding light on the adoption process and the benefits of welcoming a rescue dog into your home. Dori Peck, SpokAnimal’s executive director, shared insights on the current situation at the shelter.

SpokAnimal currently has 45 dogs in the shelter and 50 in foster care. In addition to dogs, there are 60 cats in the shelter and over 200 in foster care. “Owner surrenders, transfers from local partners, and transfers in from other states” are the primary ways these animals come to SpokAnimal, Peck said.

Peck explained the adoption process: “People come to meet the dogs, bring their own dog if they want to do a meet and greet, which we recommend, spend time with the dogs, and choose one. Paperwork is done immediately, and if the dog is spayed or neutered, they can take them home that day. If not, they will have to wait until they are.”…
