Spokane Public Schools to adopt balanced calendar for 2026-27 school year

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Public Schools (SPS) sent an email to parents on Thursday announcing that the district is set to adopt a balanced academic calendar, which will begin at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

SPS says the adjusted calendar is part of a 3-year collective bargaining agreement between the Spokane Education Association (SEA) and SPS.

The agreement was reached on Wednesday, but the SPS Board of Directors still has to vote for approval. The board will vote on the matter on Wednesday, Sept. 10…
