Washington State University’s Spokane Chancellor Daryll DeWald abruptly has announced that he is going on leave and will retire at the end of the year.
DeWald announced on Tuesday that he is going on research leave immediately for the rest of the calendar year when he will retire. He started working at WSU in 2011 as the Dean of the College of Sciences. DeWald was made Inaugural Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in 2012. In 2017 he was moved to the Spokane Chancellor. He oversaw the launch of the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine in Spokane. WSU Provost Chris Riley-Tillman will take on the Spokane Chancellor’s duties and leadership of the university’s health sciences enterprise during the transition. There was no announcement from WSU Tuesday about long-term plans for the post.
