That big white dome you can see from most parts of the city all winter? That’s Mount Spokane, where you’ll find the ski resort with the same name

It’s no surprise that even the earliest Spokanites looking for something to do in the wintertime would settle on Mount Spokane as their obvious choice. After all, you can see its white-capped peak from just about anywhere down in the Spokane River valley. In the late-1930s, locals had installed rope tows and hosted ski races; by the late 1940s it featured the world’s first double chairlift. (They salvaged an old mining tram from Wallace and put it to recreational use.)

The resort, which resides on Washington state parkland, changed hands many times over the years; since 1997 it’s been operated by the local nonprofit MS2000.

“Every dollar earned is reinvested into the mountain in our facilities and our programs,” says Jodi Kayler, assistant general manager at Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park. “We truly work to serve our community.”…
