The Spokane County Board of County Commissioners in Washington voted unanimously this week to keep the property tax levy rate the same for 2026. The Board chose not to implement the 1% annual increase allowed by state law. This decision follows the County’s efforts to close a projected $20 million budget gap for the next fiscal year.
Board Chair Mary Kuney said the Board aimed to balance the budget without raising taxes for residents. To do this, officials were directed to reduce expenses by 7 percent and eliminate vacant positions. These steps are intended to align revenues with expenditures.
