SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Spokane Valley City Council approved a new automated speed camera program aimed at improving safety in school zones, following an increase in complaints about speeding drivers.
The city must still select a vendor and finalize camera locations before installation. Officials expect the speed cameras to be operational by the start of the next school year.
According to a city presentation to council, drivers caught traveling 6 to 10 miles per hour over the posted school zone speed limit could face a $145 fine. Higher fines would apply for drivers exceeding the speed limit by a greater margin…
