SpokAnimal remains closed as staff continues to treat unknown virus in the dog kennels

SPOKANE, Wash. — SpokAnimal remains closed nearly a week after it announced a temporary closure due to the spread of an unknown virus that is causing pneumonia among the dogs.

The nonprofit’s executive director, Dori Peck, states that the staff is currently caring for 19 sick dogs. She says no dogs have had to be euthanized.

Peck told KREM 2 the shelter will remain closed to the public until the dogs recover from the virus. She says the decision to reopen will be made by the shelter vet, who is still advising an abundance of caution…
