Mark and Sarah Lathrop commute from the Idaho Panhandle to their winery in the burgeoning Spokane Wash., suburb of Liberty Lake, yet their winemaking focus centers deliciously on the Yakima Valley American Viticultural Area and its most famous sub-AVA — Red Mountain. Inspired by a trip to Italy’s Amalfi Coast during the 2022 vintage, the Lathrops named their ode to Super Tuscan-styled blends for the painstaking Path of the Gods hike. It’s a straightforward blend of grapes grown the same year as their escapade, and the bottling of Sangiovese (50%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) with Merlot evokes thoughts a late-summer’s feast with dark strawberries and sun-dried tomatoes among the aromatics.
