Boomtown: New development causes safety concerns in Spokane’s Lower Crossing neighborhood

SPOKANE, Wash. — With a bright winter sun seeping into Mardis Nenno’s living room, she works diligently on an art project. Art has been a constant in Nenno’s life, just as her home has been.

Nenno has lived in Lower Crossing for 30 years. It’s a tiny neighborhood tucked along the Spokane River, with just one narrow way in and out.
