Airway Heights man arrested after police say shooting claim was false

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — A reported shooting in the 13600 block of West Sixth Avenue around 3:30 a.m. led detectives from the Airway Heights Police Department (AHPD) to arrest a 36-year-old man after they determined the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

According to AHPD officials, a caller told 911 they heard a neighbor yelling that he had been shot. Upon arrival, officers found the neighbor with a gunshot wound to his leg.

The man reportedly claimed that someone entered his apartment, shot him in the leg and ran off. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that authorities stated were not life-threatening…
