SPOKANE, Wash — A fire displaced five people from their Spokane home Tuesday morning.
At 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Spokane Firefighters responded to a home on East Sharp Avenue, located behind Jack & Dan’s Tavern in the Logan neighborhood. As fire crews continue cleanup efforts, they are blocking part of E Sharp Ave, so drivers are asked to avoid the area. According to Justin DeRuyter with the Spokane Fire Department, when crews arrived, they found one person crawling out of a window. All five people in the home had managed to escape safely.
The Red Cross is assisting.
“This one was close. We were right on that verge of people getting trapped inside and us having to go in and actually rescue,” said DeRuyter.
DeRuyter added that the fire began on the back porch, then spread up the back of the home and into the attic…
