Washington State DOE declares drought, likely impacting Spokane River

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Washington State is facing what’s being called a dismal drought. It could be a dry and difficult summer ahead for the Spokane river, says Katelyn Scott with the Spokane riverkeeper.

“We’re talking about low flows again this summer,” said Scott.

Scott says it is likely to happen after a report from the Washington Department of Ecology (DOE) declared a statewide drought for the fourth year in a row. For this year, the DOE cited what they say is a dismal snowpack, which, in turn, could lead to a water shortage…
