WELLPINIT, Wash. – The Spokane Tribe of Indians reported on Friday the loss of an unknown amount of funds from one of the Tribe’s bank accounts as the result of a social engineering cyber “vishing” (vocal phishing) scam.
The scam reportedly occurred on May 12, using “psychological manipulation to trick people into revealing information or performing actions to compromise security.”
Tribal staff reportedly took action upon learning of the scam, and secured the Tribe’s network while notifying banking representatives about the incident. Staff noted that no evidence has been found indicating external data loss following the scam…
