HOUSTON, Texas — A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to federal prison for possessing and transferring an illegal machine gun, according to Acting U.S. Attorney John G.E. Marck.
Jaleel Filer, who pleaded guilty on March 5, 2026, was ordered by U.S. District Judge Charles R. Eskridge to serve 37 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The investigation into Filer began in January 2023 when law enforcement identified his involvement in the sale of firearms and machine gun conversion devices, commonly known as “switches,” which convert semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic machine guns and are illegal to possess.
Over a five-month period, authorities conducted multiple undercover purchases from Filer, including firearms and machine gun conversion devices (MCDs). On January 6, Filer sold two firearms, one equipped with a machine gun conversion device, for approximately $2,200. He also claimed he could sell MCDs in the future for $100 each.
