Houston Pride Parade called off due to flooding, severe weather

Houston was set to kick off LGBTQ+ Pride Month with a downtown parade on Saturday, but Mother Nature had other plans.

Pride Houston 365 announced Saturday afternoon the 48th annual Houston Pride Parade, scheduled to take place that evening, had been called off due “severe weather and flooding conditions.” The Houston area has been drenched the past few days, with 2 inches falling on the region over Saturday and another 1-3 inches expected that evening according to the National Weather Service. The parade was scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. downtown.

“The safety of our attendees, participants, volunteers and staff must come first,” organizers said in a social media statement.

The Houston Pride Festival, which kicked off Saturday at 11:00 a.m. will remain open until 7:00, organizers said. Videos on social media showed downtown festival attendees huddling under umbrellasduring downpours. Pride Houston 365 said they are coordinating with the Houston Mayor’s Office to find a new date for the parade sometime between July 19 and October 31, and any potential rescheduled parade would be announced at a later date…
