On June 16, the Conroe ISD board of trustees discussed the district’s special education department’s increasing costs and student population as well as an update on the district’s “homecoming plan,” which will return students to their zoned neighborhoods.
Kendra Wiggins, CISD executive director of special education, presented the annual special education update to the CISD board. CISD currently serves 12,282 special education students, which makes up 17% of the total student population. Along with that, there are 5,977 Section 504 students who make up 8.3% of the total student population.
