I’ve loved Paul Doiron’s books since I picked up The Poacher’s Son, the first in a series of mysteries about a Maine game warden named Mike Bowditch. The book was published in 2010, but I didn’t get my hands on it until seven years later, by which time, Doiron was well-established for his dark and brooding portrayals of Maine, far from what he once described to me as the “lobsters and lighthouses” cliche people have of The Pine Tree State. Readers who love an outdoor setting combined with a mystery will want to join me in the audience when Doiron returns to Houston.
