Conroe-based Hertha Metals will break ground on a new $100 million plant to produce steel and high-purity iron, which company leaders say will reduce the United States’ dependence on foreign supplies.
The plant will be at 100 FM 3083 near the company’s pilot facility. Hertha has raised approximately $20 million to date, with funding from Breakthrough Energy and Khosla Ventures, as well as a grant from the Department of Energy, according to Hertha representatives.
