Funeral services for Joseph Aponte, former Sugar Land employee, will be held on February 13 at Triska Funeral Home, 612 Merchant Street. Visitation starts at 1 p.m., followed by the funeral at 2 p.m.
A reception will take place at New Taiton Community Center, 14221 FM 961 Road. Aponte, a first responder in Public Works, lost his life in a line-of-duty incident involving criminals evading authorities from Missouri City police on Wednesday.
Mayor Joe Zimmerman expressed grief, saying, “We are devastated by the loss of Joseph Aponte, a valued member of our workforce. His passing is a terrible tragedy, and we are in immense pain and sorrow.”
The city is dedicated to supporting Aponte’s family, offering provisions for food, funeral expenses, counseling, benefits, and other resources. Aponte was a dedicated public servant who profoundly impacted the community.
Joseph Aponte was born on August 19, 1967, in Sommers Point, New Jersey. He was passionate about his role as an inventory part clerk.
