Local preachers speak out about Joel Osteen’s teachings
The woman entering Joel Osteen’s Houston Lakewood Church in Houston with a gun was a tragic event (per ABC). A 5-year-old child and a 57-year-old man were shot and the shooter was killed by police.
A former Virginia preacher Apostle Gary Kasey said there should be compassion at this time even from those who don’t agree with Osteen’s message (Huff Post). Others, however feel this is the appropriate time to bring some facts to the table.
A local co-pastor M.L. says he is hoping followers of Osteen and those across America will realize that life happens to everyone even the rich and famous and that no man can tell the entire world what will or will not happen in their lives because they follow his teachings. He added that church buildings are as vulnerable as the hood.

Sperate the tragedy from the teaching
Minister Kylie says Osteen teaches people can control their lives by working principles but nothing he has taught or written about could have prepared him for what happened Sunday (Anchorage News). She is sad about the shooting but hopes everyone’s eyes will be opened to the truth that circumstances cannot always be controlled.
