Very Cold Air Rushing in Behind Severe Thunderstorms
01/05/25 4:00pm EST
Good afternoon everyone. We continue to watch severe thunderstorms racing across parts of Louisiana and Mississippi as tornado watches and warnings linger onward through the late afternoon and evening.
We are also watching that line trail back into southeast Texas, where strong to severe storms are about to enter the Houston, TX area. Our violent weather today and tonight represent a strong cold front attached to a very vigorous low pressure system, with arctic air behind it.
That sharp contrast is helping along the severe weather threat, but there’s also major issues behind the front as well. Across the southeast Gulf shores of Texas and Louisiana, we’ll see 75-80 degree temperatures this afternoon, plunge back into the 25-30 degree range overnight; even at the shore along relatively warm water.
For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for a very large area Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Meanwhile, we have Freeze Warnings issued overnight across areas of the Texas and Louisiana coast for overnight tonight into tomorrow morning.
