An elusive creature that used to be common in Texas was spotted on trail cameras, showing that it may be making a return, officials said.
Wildlife officials shared photos of the critter to Facebook on March 14.
“Our Watershed Ecology team has been monitoring wildlife with trail cameras and captured an exciting sight — an unmistakable North American River Otter,” the San Antonio River Authority said in the post. “These elusive creatures were once common here but disappeared due to habitat loss and trapping. While recent sightings have been recorded near Goliad and the San Marcos River, this is the first confirmed otter sighting in the upper San Antonio watershed in years!”
