Houston Man Convicted for Lookout Role in Spring Smoke Shop Armed Robbery

Patrick Norman, 20, was convicted for his role in an armed robbery at the Spring Smoke Shop on January 29, 2024. He served as the lookout during the robbery, and the jury found him guilty of aiding and abetting the crime, as per the U.S. Attorney’s Office release. The conviction followed a three-day trial, where surveillance footage and phone records showed Norman’s communication with the robber, Danial Starr, prior to the event. This evidence contradicted Norman’s claim of not knowing Starr.

Eyewitness testimony from the store clerk also helped secure the conviction. The defense argued that Norman did not intend to participate in the robbery, but the jury rejected this claim. Norman now faces up to 20 years in federal prison, with sentencing scheduled at a later date. He was taken into custody on Monday after arriving late for the trial.

Starr, Norman’s co-defendant, pleaded guilty before the trial and is awaiting sentencing. Another accomplice, Calvin Deshazo, has also admitted to his involvement in other robberies and is awaiting sentencing…
