Families of two Houston men file $1M lawsuit, followed by another in Jefferson County after fatal Port Arthur scaffolding collapse

BEAUMONT, Texas — Families of two men killed and an injured worker have filed a lawsuit against several energy companies and a contractor seeking more than $1 million in connection with a fatal scaffolding collapse on Tuesday morning at the Port Arthur LNG construction site in Sabine Pass. This was followed by another lawsuit in Jefferson County just hours later.

There are currently three wrongful death lawsuits and a negligence suit related to the incident, according to attorneys representing the victims’ families.

The lawsuit for the Houston men alleges that the defendants’ negligence caused the deaths of Felipe Mendez, 25, of Houston, and Felix Lopez, 42, of Pearland, and severe injuries to Marcos Ramirez. All of the men were reportedly knocked from a scaffolding platform during a “tank jump form system incident at elevation.”…
