Houston Resident Sentenced to Nearly 6 Years for Tenth Illegal Entry into the U.S.

A 47-year-old Mexican national, who has repeatedly illegally reentered the United States, has been sentenced to a 69-month stint in federal prison. Josue Rodriguez-Rodriguez, who resides in Houston, entered a guilty plea on March 14 for his tenth illegal reentry into the country, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.

Judge Ewing Werlein Jr. of the U.S. District Court handed down the sentence, following Rodriguez-Rodriguez’s guilty plea and highlighting the failure of his previous 41-month sentence to act as an effective deterrent. With a history of felony convictions, including aggravated assault-family violence and possession with intent to deliver or manufacture a controlled substance, Rodriguez-Rodriguez was first deported in 2000. Found near Carrizo Springs by authorities on May 5, 2014, and again on February 23, 2021, in Houston, his habitual unlawful reentries have become somewhat legendary.

As reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he is not a U.S. citizen and is expected to face removal proceedings after serving his prison term. Until his transfer to an as-yet-undetermined Federal Bureau of Prisons facility, he will remain in custody…
