A 21-year-old man in Texas, Angel Gomez Montanez, is facing murder charges after a deadly confrontation with one of his roommates over rent payment. The shooting, which led to the death of 18-year-old Christopher Rodriguez Lara, has shocked the local community and raised concerns about the tragic consequences of unresolved conflicts.
The Deadly Argument Over Rent
The incident took place on June 12 at around 10 p.m. when Harris County deputies responded to a call at an apartment complex on Butte Creek Road. When they arrived, they found Christopher Rodriguez Lara suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders pronounced him dead shortly after.
Detectives discovered that the shooting stemmed from an argument over rent payment. According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the dispute began after Gomez Montanez was asked to contribute to the rent after staying with his family. His sister, Zuleyka Ortiz, told KTRK that her brother had been living rent-free on the couch for several months but had been asked to help with the household bills.
“We told him we needed the money for rent,” Ortiz explained. “We have bills to pay, and this can’t be happening.” When asked to pay his share, Gomez Montanez left the apartment but later returned, reportedly wanting to speak to Rodriguez Lara.
