The Spring ISD board took a strong stand against book bans this week, unanimously rejecting policy changes that would have given parents a bigger role in how books are banned from campus libraries.
The proposed changes recommended by the Texas Association of School Boards adhere to Senate Bill 13, which grants school boards and an appointed committee made of parents — otherwise known as a School Library Advisory Council — the authority to oversee book removals.
