Conroe considers raising property tax rate to pay for police raises and boost recruitment

The Conroe City Council might raise the city’s tax rate to pay for police pay raises as part of its 2026 budget, which currently does not include any specific plans for law enforcement.

While the city’s 2026 proposed budget of $366 million includes a 6% cost-of-living raise for all employees, it doesn’t include any additional funds to address hiring and recruitment to fill 20 vacancies at the Conroe Police Department.
