Residents affected by August Spring Branch fire can now access disaster assistance, governor says

Disaster assistance is now available for residents affected and displaced by last month’s apartment fire in the northwest Houston neighborhood of Spring Branch, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Tuesday.

Affected residents will have access to low-interest loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), which approved the governor’s Sept. 9 disaster declaration after roughly 100 units were destroyed in the 3-alarm fire Aug. 19.

Applicants can apply online and receive help with the process from SBA representatives at the Disaster Loan Outreach Center starting Sept. 18 at 1625 Blalock Road, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
