Power, at last: Residents in Houston’s Kashmere Gardens finally get backup power at resilience hub

In Houston’s Kashmere Gardens, severe weather has historically meant widespread power outages and no place to shelter when residents begin to bake or freeze inside their homes.

After years of advocating for change, residents celebrated Monday as officials gathered at the Kashmere Gardens Multi-Service Center to unveil a long-awaited generator to power the entire facility during outages.

The installation allows the multi-service center to operate as a resilience hub, so residents will have a place to get water, food, Wi-Fi and a safe place to go following storms. The facility will also provide education on severe weather…
