These Houston-area suburbs have some of the highest property tax burdens in the US

While Texas is known for high property taxes, a new study finds that several Houston-area suburbs are hit especially hard.

Conroe, north of Houston in Montgomery County, ranks No. 16 in the nation for median property tax burdens as a percentage of median local household income, according to a study from SmartAsset, the personal finance website, released Dec. 4.

The median income of households with a mortgage is $114,220 in Conroe, SmartAsset found, compared to median annual property taxes of $5,866, meaning the community has a median property tax burden of 5.1% of income…
