A shoplifting attempt in west Houston turned ugly on Dec. 7 when, police say, a man hid a couple of wine bottles under his jacket and then cracked a store employee on the head after being confronted. The worker suffered serious head injuries, and the suspect bolted before officers arrived. The violent encounter unfolded inside a retail store in the 10800 block of Westheimer, and Houston police are now asking the public to help track the man down using newly released surveillance images.
