‘No need for alarm’: Crews containing wildland fire in Addicks Reservoir

HOUSTON – You may have noticed the plume of smoke on the west side of town on Sunday, but fire officials say “there is no need for alarm.” Authorities are working to contain a grass fire in the Addicks Reservoir area, and they said it’s under control.

The Houston Fire Department, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the Texas A&M Forestry Service are managing the large fire between I-10 and Eldridge Parkway, south of Bear Creek Park.

“While the fire started as a grass fire, our managed response will allow the fire to grow and burn off years of debris. Managing the fire in this manner will aid in reducing potential fire threats in the future,” HFD officials said…
