Tracking your severe weather threat: As many folks gear up for the rodeo this weekend.

Severe weather threat Saturday:

We’re tracking a severe weather threat for Houston on Saturday. We’re tracking a cold front moving into warm, humid Gulf air, which will trigger thunderstorms and some of them could turn severe.

⛈️ Overall Risk:

  • Level 2 of 5 (Slight Risk) for severe weather across most of Southeast Texas.
  • That means scattered severe storms are possible, but it’s not expected to be a widespread outbreak.

⏰ Timing (Houston Area):

  • Our Saturday morning starts with a muggy feel and temperatures in the 70s. The winds will not be as strong as they’ve been the past several days. Besides an isolated light rain shower we should be rain free.
  • Storms start around 3pm, with strong cells scattered throughout southeast Texas.
  • Evening: The line of potentially severe storms moves through our northern cities at 7pm, Houston 9pm and the coast at 11pm.

⚠️ Main Threats:

  1. Damaging wind gusts – possibly 60+ mph in the strongest cells.
  2. Large hail – isolated but possible mainly west and north of the loop.
  3. Heavy rain – could cause street flooding, especially in poor drainage areas.
  4. tornado – low probability, but not zero. The organized threat is well northeast of Houston.

🌧️ Rain / Flood Potential:

  • A level 2 of 4 risk for excessive rainfall is in place north of I-10.
  • With repeated storms, some locations could see 1–3 inches of rain, possibly more locally.
