ExxonMobil Proposes Historic Shift: Moving Legal Home to the “Lone Star State”
In a move that signals the end of a century-long era, Exxon Mobil Corporation announced Tuesday that by a unanimous vote, its Board of Directors approved the relocation of the company’s legal domicile from New Jersey to Texas. The shift is an effort by the company to merge its legal identity with its physical operations in Spring, Texas. The company moved its global headquarters to the Houston area in 2023.

For over 100 years, ExxonMobil was legally a resident of New Jersey, despite its massive industrial and administrative footprint in the South. CEO Darren Woods said the move is the logical decision.
