One more round of storms before 90-degree heat arrives

After several stormy days, the Ozarks will have one more chance to see scattered showers and thunderstorms on Saturday before a much drier and hotter weather pattern settles into the region.

A stationary front is expected to linger across the Ozarks on Saturday, allowing scattered showers and a few thunderstorms to develop from the morning into the early afternoon. Rainfall totals should remain relatively light, especially compared to what we’ve experienced over the past week, but a few stronger, isolated thunderstorms could produce brief downpours and localized heavier rainfall.

Despite the rain chances, Saturday will be hot and humid. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the 80s, while heat index values will easily reach the 90s. If that sounds bad, the forecast for next week is even hotter.

By Sunday, we’ll say goodbye to the clouds and rain and hello to summer heat. High temperatures are expected to climb above 90 degrees for the first time in several months, with heat index values approaching the triple digits.

This marks our first true taste of summertime heat and will also provide a much-needed opportunity for the ground to dry out. Hot and humid conditions are expected to persist through much of next week, with highs in the lower to middle 90s from Monday through Friday. Heat index values will likely exceed 100 degrees at times, and rain chances appear very slim throughout the week…
