We saw sunnier weather return today, and also the heat. Afternoon highs were back in the 90s, a testament to the impact of clouds this time of the year (or lack thereof).
The temperature will run cooler on Wednesday thanks to more cloud cover. This will also be our final call for rain before the end of the month.
There will actually be a wave of clouds and even a chance for sprinkles or showers overnight tonight as a lead area of unsettled weather moves through. Rain chances won’t be high north of the state line, but could be a bit higher to the south, where the atmosphere is set up a little better to produce showers and thunderstorms.
Another pocket of unsettled weather will move east into the area by Wednesday afternoon. This, coupled with a cool front dropping in from the north, should lead to scattered showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon into the evening. Most of the rain will fall south of the interstate, particularly south of the state line. A few of the storms could also become severe with damaging wind gusts. Some isolated hail is also possible. The window for severe weather should open around 2 pm and close around 9 pm Wednesday evening.
Drier and slightly cooler air will flow in behind Wednesday’s front. This will make for a nice stretch of weather from Thursday into Saturday. Highs Thursday and Friday will be in the upper 80s, with morning lows in the low to mid 60s.
Sunny weather will dominate the late-week stretch, continuing through the upcoming weekend. Look for the afternoons to become hotter, especially by Sunday, when highs will be well into the 90s. Upper 90s to near 100° highs are set to sizzle the area early next week. No rain is expected through the start of September.
