SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Convoy of Hope is responding to a mudslide and flash flooding along the border of Nepal and China that has killed at least 360 people, with hundreds more missing as search and rescue efforts continue.
The mudslide resulted from a glacial collapse that registered as a 5.2 magnitude earthquake. The collapse sent a surge of water downstream, tearing through villages, roads, bridges and other infrastructure and leaving families displaced.
Hundreds still missing
At least 341 foreign tourists remain unaccounted for, according to Nepal’s Tourism Board. Dozens of Americans are among the missing foreign nationals.
Flooding has damaged roads and infrastructure, making it difficult for emergency responders to reach some of the hardest-hit communities. Rescue efforts are underway on both sides of the border as officials continue searching for survivors.
