NIXA, Mo. (KY3) – High school enrollment is dropping across the Ozarks, according to new data from the Missouri State High School Activities Association. A few local districts are seeing the opposite trend.
The association’s data tracks students in grades 9 through 11. Nixa Public Schools said overall district enrollment is down, but enrollment within that 9-11 grade window has seen small yearly increases over the last few years.
Nixa sees gradual increase
Jared Webster, executive director of secondary education for Nixa Public Schools, said the district is following a national trend of declining overall enrollment, but two factors are pushing secondary enrollment up slightly each year.
“Well, as a district, we’re kind of following the national trend in terms of overall our enrollment as a district is going down, but we’ve got a couple things going for us that are causing enrollment at the secondary to bump up just a fuzz every year, just a little bit every year,” Webster said…
