SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -A popular fishing spot at Lake Springfield’s Tailwaters access is now closed indefinitely, a decision that is drawing reaction from local fishermen who say they wish there had been more communication before the gate was shut.
City Utilities said the decision to close the access point came after a safety review following the deaths of three people at Lake Springfield in June. The utility company said the closure followed a meeting with the Springfield Greene County Park Board and Springfield Fire Department after the deaths of a mother and two of her daughters, who were swept away after going over the dam.
