Crane man faces upgraded murder charge for death of woman in Columbia motel room

A southwest Missouri man, charged with murder for the death of a woman in a motel room in Columbia, faces upgraded charges.

Nicholas Ayres, 35, of Crane, was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree domestic assault resulting in serious physical injury last month. But on Friday, Ayres was indicted by a public grand jury on an upgraded charge of first-degree murder. He also remains charged with first-degree domestic assault and will be arraigned on the upgraded charges later this afternoon.
