Happy fall! The autumnal equinox is today at 7:05 pm central time. This is when we officially end summer and move into fall.
The equinox is when the sun is directly over the equator, splitting the Earth perfectly between day and night from east to west. The word equinox comes from the two Latin words for ‘equal’ and ‘night’. In Springfield, the time between night and day isn’t exactly split on the equinox itself. Our equal day locally is September 26. 12 hours of daytime and 12 hours of nighttime.
Changing the seasons means a change in the weather, and the Ozarks are experiencing a taste of fall coincidentally on the first day of the new season. After a summer filled with 90s and even several 100s, we are finally cooling things down. But what is the rest of the season expected to be like?…
