Greene County inmate death under investigation

GREENE COUNTY, Mo. – An inmate at the Greene County Jail has died, according to a release from the jail Tuesday morning, January 23.

49-year-old Michael Hill was first incarcerated at the jail nearly three weeks ago on January 4 on a 2nd-degree assault charge and a probation violation.

Hill was found unresponsive in his cell on January 22 and the detention officer on duty began performing CPR. Emergency responders arrived soon after and Hill was pronounced dead at 2:08 a.m.

The release from the jail said there was no evidence of foul play, but an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of Hill’s death and the investigation is ongoing.
